A personal reflection on Hayden’s suffering and her lifelong search for maternal love
The tragic and far too early death of this young woman affected me deeply because I recognised so much of myself – my younger self and my young adult self – in her struggles and her suffering. I did not follow her career and work very closely – I am not particularly fond of Hollywood productions – but I did know who she was. What I did not know was that behind that beautiful face, those refined acting skills and that exquisite professionalism, there was so much abuse, manipulation and deep pain hidden away. The truth usually only comes to light when heads start rolling first, after which the skeletons begin tumbling out of the closet in droves.
But that is not what I want to talk about in this article. Here, I want to bear witness to the suffering and the endless search for maternal love and affection of a little girl and young woman who was never able to fulfill this deep longing in this lifetime. With this article, I want to validate and acknowledge the injustice that was done to her and the thousands of ways in which she was used and abused. That she – just like me – was the daughter of a cold, calculating and manipulative narcissistic mother is beyond doubt to me, but above all, watching the YouTube video in which Tiffany Linn conducts an energetic reading of the energetic field of this beautiful soul was the absolute confirmation for me of that tragic fate.

We can hide a lot, but our energy always reveals the Truth
Tiffany Linn reads energetic fields and channels messages from an entity she calls “Grandmother Maitreya”. Many of her readings resonate with what I myself energetically pick up from well-known figures and phenomena that we encounter. I resonated very deeply with what she described about what she was able to pick up from Hayden Panettiere’s energy field - who had been exploited by her mother in multiple ways since she was a baby - and I recognised my own suffering and struggles as a child and as a young woman in it as well. I am sharing Tiffany’s video here; and list the most important observations with short personal reflections in the text below.
In the video, Tiffany makes a spiritual analysis of Hayden’s energetic state, using images from different stages of the young actress’s life. She describes the deep inner devastation that resulted from a lifelong unfulfilled longing for unconditional maternal love. According to the reading, Hayden was continually subjected to verbal humiliation and emotional abuse, which suffocated her pure and innocent nature. These traumatising experiences created an inner climate of unremitting fear and deep self-doubt in Hayden, making it feel as though she were living in a prison. The reading concludes with a call to find the courage to use your own voice and set boundaries in order to put an end to this kind of abuse.

The dynamics behind Hayden’s lifelong search for her mother’s love
To me, it is unmistakable from the following observations, which Tiffany sometimes expresses very clearly and sometimes much more subtly, that she was raised by a self-interest-focused narcissistic mother (or a mother with another serious egocentric personality disorder):
1. A deep and unfulfilled longing for maternal love
Hayden was gravely tormented by a deep and unfulfilled yearning for maternal love, which she continued to search for – fruitlessly – throughout her entire life. It is the longing to be loved, to be seen and acknowledged in your existence, and to be unconditionally accepted for who you ARE.

The only thing this young woman REALLY wanted was the approval, recognition and love of her mother. In order to experience even a fraction of that feeling, she worked incredibly hard and presumably allowed herself to be abused in a thousand different ways by the people in the industry in which she was professionally active. That deep deprivation, the cutting pain of rejection and that endless search even brought her to the top of the entertainment industry; and yet she remained deeply unhappy. Because what she REALLY wanted always remained beyond her reach, no matter what she would do, achieve or accomplish.
From the reading of her energy field, it appears that – because of this relentless search – she was never allowed to experience peace or fulfillment and that this resulted in an emotional devastation deep within her.
2. Working and achieving in the hope of finally being seen
In order to experience at least a glimpse of that feeling of acceptance, recognition and approval, she worked incredibly hard and achieved so much. Her entire life revolved around working, working, working. The reading shows that Hayden was a real “workhorse”; highly work-oriented because she believed that if she kept going and worked even harder, reached even greater heights through her work, her mother would finally see her for who she was. She continued to push herself to the absolute limit just to obtain a glimpse of approval, a little bit of self-validation from her mother.
As the child of a narcissistic mother, you learn very quickly that you are not seen and acknowledged for who you are, but for what you can do and achieve that primarily puts your mother in a positive light and benefits HER image and reputation. And unfortunately, this is a dynamic that extremely detrimental to our health and often leads us straight towards burnout in adulthood …
3. Growing up under a relentless stream of criticism
Instead of unconditional support, encouragement and love, she received nothing but an unrelenting stream of reprimands and criticism. From a very young age, she was constantly shouted at and criticised by her mother. In her energetic reading, Tiffany describes this criticism as “harsh, severe and prolonged verbal attacks; blaming rather than a calm correction”.
For a young child, a dynamic of continual personal criticism creates the deep conviction and feeling of never being good enough and always falling short. The reading suggests that Hayden, too, came to believe that whatever she did or achieved was never enough and that more was always expected of her. When she thought she had finally reached the “end point”, the most fulfilling and highest point she could reach (on the stages on which she performed), she believed that this would finally create a moment of pride, and that she would finally “be there”. That she would finally receive her mother’s love and approval.

4. A childhood without protection from overwhelming experiences
The reading also clearly shows that, from childhood onwards, she was continually exposed to shocking, traumatising experiences for which her mind was not mature enough. She was not protected from what is still too overwhelming for a child and demands too much from a nervous system that is still developing and is not yet able to process these experiences in a healthy way.
Because of these unsettling experiences to which she had been exposed since childhood, her soul, her being, could not ground itself and settle into her body. This created that deep, undefined feeling of having lost herself, of being completely “lost”. The feeling of not being centered in her own being and her own body created a great deal of fear, which never left her. She continued to search outside herself for that solid ground, that sense of security (maternal love) that, unfortunately, she never found.
In the reading, Tiffany also says that many of the people she encountered in her search for a little stability took advantage of her innocence and her deep longing for a loving sense of security, thereby causing her even more harm and pain. Most of her interactions with other people were traumatising and her inner child was never able to process these traumatic experiences.
5. When your light activates the shadows of others
She was an enormous light and, in reality, far too pure and innocent for the environment into which she was launched as a child. All she wanted was to share her joy in life, to be herself, to be seen and accepted for who she was.
But unfortunately, that beautiful light also activates the shadow parts of the people around us. Her radiant light, joy in life and innocence also awakened her mother’s jealousy and spite, and her mother did everything she could to extinguish that powerful light through her relentless stream of criticism and belittling. Those constant attacks of criticism were intended to suppress and smother her pure, joyful and contagious energy.
Some mothers become so consumed by their own pain and traumas that they are unable to appreciate, nurture and love the joyful light their children bring into their lives. The only thing they are capable of doing is projecting their own pain onto their children and robbing them of and stripping them of their self-worth and self-confidence. Belittling and humiliating another person – even their own children – is the only way they can make themselves feel better about themselves.
And they continue doing this until all the joy of life has drained out of them and they are left with a hollow and empty feeling.

6. Learning to suppress the true self
The energetic reading also teaches us that she was already terrified as a child. Terrified of doing something wrong, saying something wrong, behaving incorrectly. Terrified of expressing herself exactly as she was. Expressing her true self, her emotions and her needs probably met with disapproval and rejection or perhaps even reprimand and punishment; something she wanted to avoid at all costs.
The reading tells us that her entire way of being was extraordinarily “restrained”. As though she were living in a prison from which there was no escape; a prison that allowed no space whatsoever for self-expression, for what she REALLY wanted to say, what she REALLY wanted to do and what she REALLY wanted to express.
She held so much of herself back because who she really was was never good enough anyway.
According to Tiffany’s energetic reading, this – suppressing and holding back the true self – already began to create dysfunction in her organs at a young age.
All these dynamics are very closely interconnected and, unfortunately, they are the daily reality of children who are raised in a dysfunctional and narcissistic home. A young child raised under these circumstances develops extraordinarily clever survival strategies, which often have devastating effects on the psyche and body later in life.
The devastating long-term consequences of these dynamics for the adult child
1. The lifelong search for the mother’s love
If, as a child, you were never allowed to experience the flow of unconditional maternal love, you will unconsciously continue searching for it throughout your entire adult life. Your entire life becomes controlled and driven by a kind of undefined and endless search to fill the emptiness that this deep deprivation creates within you.
2. Losing the authentic self and the joy of living
Continual exposure to criticism and belittling remarks from the maternal figure from whom the child actually needs recognition, validation, support, encouragement and love leads to suppression and eventually to the loss of the authentic self and the joy of living. The adult child functions on the basis of a “false self” and roles they have taken on to keep themselves afloat within the dysfunctional dynamic, but feels deeply lost inside and experiences a profound (existential) emptiness.
3. The search for security can lead us back into harmful relationships
The absence of a solid anchoring in one’s own identity and body, combined with the desperate search for security and unconditional love, unfortunately leads the adult child to unconsciously attract partners and situations that hurt her even more and take advantage of her. The lack of that inner stability leads to confusion and deep self-doubt, and also means that the child lacks the willpower and the voice to set boundaries and finds it difficult to take action to stand up for herself.
4. The consequences of constantly suppressing yourself
The enormous emotional pressure, constantly having to “hold yourself in”, swallowing your own truth and not being able or allowed to express your true self eventually leads to dysfunction in bodily functions and lays the foundations for chronic conditions.
Do you recognise yourself in the dynamics Hayden struggled with?
If you recognise yourself in these dynamics, know that you are not alone and that many children of narcissistic mothers hide a great deal of pain behind their masks. Many of us believe that we are the only ones who, as adults, struggle with an undefined feeling and desperately search for something we simply cannot seem to find; that – even in adulthood – we still do not really know who we are because we were never allowed to express our true selves; that we always seem to attract people and partners who use and abuse us; and that we still believe we have to work incredibly hard to be worthy of a little love and attention.
